  • For the first 48-72 hours its crucial to stick to the white diet. Avoid all food and beverages with colour.

Coffee, Tea, Red wine, Coke, Pepsi, Acai smoothies & Bowls. Tomato sauces, Curries, Bolognese, Chocolate, Strawberries, Coloured fruit juices. Anything that will discolour a white shirt is going to stain your teeth straight after whitening.

  • We can’t promise that nothing in this world doesn’t hurt but when it comes to whitening, this procedure should not hurt. Like we mentioned earlier, everyone is different and some people experience tooth sensitivity on different levels, some mild, some extreme. This doesn’t mean you can’t have whitening, it just may be slightly sensitive. The best thing about whitening with 6.5% hydrogen peroxide is this level reduces any intense sensitivity. We have found most of our clients experience little to no sensitivity at all!

If you do already experience sensitive teeth we recommend using a sensitive toothpaste (our choice is Sensodyne) a week before and a week after your treatment to help reduce any chance of sensitivity.

  • Most people can whiten their teeth as long as you are over the age of 18 and do not have a severe medical condition, are pregnant or breast feeding.

What should I be doing before my whitening treatment?

We strongly recommend a professional dental check-up and clean from your dentist before we commence any whitening journey. The removal of plaque is important as we want to be whitening your tooth structure rather than any plaque build up or staining you may have. It is also important to identify and rectify any oral health issues you may have including decay or gum inflammation. These areas of concern may hinder you from achieving your ultimate whitening result.

  • Aftercare is just as important as the treatment itself. We recommend eating before your appointment as it’s best not to eat for 2 hours POST treatment. After treatment, its imperative you eat a ‘white diet’ for the following 2-3 days to give your teeth the best chance of retaining their new shade. Our hot tip is to always flush your mouth with water after eating or drinking! Using your take home whitening pen morning and night is also crucial to maintaining your shiny new smile.

  • Here at TTWB we like to be as transparent as possible! Like any type of treatment, everyone is different but overall we recommend a minimum of two sessions to reach your desired ‘white’ shade. The number of sessions will be determined by your ‘starting’ shade. In your initial assessment before your first treatment we will advise on your starting shade, what your expectations and ‘shade goals’ are and how many sessions it will take to achieve your desired shade.

It might sound crazy but teeth come in all different shades! Some people have creamy yellow tones in their teeth while others have more translucent grey tones. Some of these ‘tones’ or shades whiten quicker than others hence the reason why some people may need more sessions than others!

  • A lot of factors come in to play when it comes to maintaining your new white teeth. Things like smoking, red wine, coffee, tea and rich coloured foods (curries, beetroot, acai bowls etc) are going to impact your tooth shade over time. This doesn’t mean you can never eat or drink these things again, (we all have our vices) but it does mean your home care is even more important for the longevity of your whitened teeth.

Brushing twice daily, flossing and regular dental cleans are going to aid in not only looking after your teeth but maintaining their shade (although we should all be doing this already, right?!)

After you reach your ideal shade of ‘white’ we highly recommend 3-6 monthly whitening freshen ups to maintain your beautiful smile.

  • The short answer to this is no. Unfortunately, whitening will only change the shade of your natural tooth structure. If you have any fillings, veeners or crowns they could potentially appear a different shade if they have been matched to your current shade BUT this only applies to your front teeth.

Many people have had whitening treatment carried out and have a lot of dental restorations on their back teeth. Again, this doesn’t rule out those who have restorations on their front teeth, it just means there is a potential that the shade difference might be noticeable.

  • Whitening toothpastes from your local chemist or grocer are not advisable (ask any dentist!). Most of these toothpastes ‘whiten’ your teeth by including very abrasive ingredients and give the appearance of whitening by ‘scrubbing’ off surface staining. These abrasive ingredients cause damage to your enamel with prolonged use and do not technically whiten your teeth. It’s a BIG no from us here at TTWB!
